The Patterns of Eugene Andolsek
June 23rd 2010I received an email this morning with a link to the artwork of Eugene Andolsek and was instantly blown away. Eugene was born in 1921, and in the evenings after returning from work, he’d spend hours at his kitchen table drawing these marvelous pieces by hand and then filing them away in a trunk or closet. They were never shown or exhibited until much later in his life when a caregiver came across his work and talent.

June 8th 2010Experimenting with patterns and Filter Forge
April 28th 2010I got the chance to try out a rather awesome filter plugin for photoshop recently called Filter Forge. The plugin allows you to texturize and apply distortion and effect filters to artwork. You can download even more free filters (over 7000) from the software site directly into your workflow to try out new looks.
Artist Kehinde Wiley
February 8th 2010In this month’s issue of Juxtapoz, I came across artist Kehinde Wiley and was instantly blown away by his paintings. Wiley is a Yale-grad, Harlem based portraitist that works some downright awesome patterns into his pieces. I still can’t believe this guy can paint these intricate patterns without losing focus of the individual(s) in the artwork.

Hi Evan
Thanks so much for the beautiful patterns and for your generosity in sharing them for free. I made a very pathetic donation but I only have pathetic funds at present. Still, better than nothing eh?
All the best.

Evan,
Nice background art. Your Retro Leaves are very cool. You should consider doing each pattern in several colors. I have a free pattern site also and I find that every pattern can be done in a range of colors and look pretty good.
Keep up the good work.

Vieve – every little bit helps! I really appreciate it! Feel free to use all the patterns you’d like. If you have a link to some designs where you’ve used them, please comment or email back where so I can showcase them.
Reggie – Thanks for the kind words! Soon (once I can get organized) I’ll be releasing the photoshop files so people can turn any pattern into any color palette they’d like. You’re site looks awesome by the way – some great patterns there!
